I had someone ask me the other day about how to stamp on silk. A couple of years ago, I had made Silk Scarves as Christmas gifts so I thought I'd type up a quick tutorial on how to do this.
I had purchased my 8" x 54" silk scarves from Dharma Trading. They can be seen and purchased here.
There are lots of instructions out there on how to do this and these may not be the instructions you have read other places, but they work for me. I have never had a problem with any of the scarves I have made following these instructions.
Step 1. Remove scarf from packaging and place under cool running water until thoroughly wet. Gently wring out.
Step 2. Hang over shower curtain rod or clip on hanger to dry overnight. (Sometimes I get impatient and go to step 3 once the scarf has quit dripping. I have never had a problem with this; just be very careful.)
Step 3. Iron the scarf using silk setting.
Step 4. Using Stampin Up!s Craft Ink, stamp design of your choice on the scarf. Let each layer dry completely before adding to the design. Remember, what you will normally want to stamp are the ends of the scarf that will be hanging. The middle portion will be around the back of your neck and will notbe seen.
Step 5. Let scarf dry thoroughly overnight.
Step 6. The next day, iron scarf again ON THE BACK SIDE OF STAMPING. This will heat set the design.
Step 7. If scarf needs cleaning, I just hand wash in sink, dry, and re-iron.
Step 8. Put on your scarf the next time you go out and look fabulous!
